Proven Migraine and Tension Headache Treatment by New York Psychiatrist

(ICD-9 # 346.9) (ICD-9 # 307.81)

Headache patients treated in our office are two types: Migraine and Tension Headaches. Migraine is caused by excessive blood flow over the surface of the brain resulting in overall feeling of pressure and often throbbing of the head together frequently with feelings of nausea and even vomiting. There may also be problems with vision as well. Migraine patients are effectively treated here with biofeedback teaching the blood flow to increase in the finger area reducing the overall sense of tension over the brain. In many cases, our patients accomplish removal of the headache at the moment they feel it begins with the learned feedback responses.

Tension Headaches do not refer to emotional tension. The term refers to contraction of specific muscles in the head and neck area causing the localized, sharp pain. Tension headaches are very effectively treated with biofeedback allowing the patient to see where the tension in the muscles begins and thereby learning to control it.
