Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment by a New York Psychiatrist

(ICD-9 # 564.1)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, known as IBS, does present itself here. Patients are often referred by gastroenterologists and complain of cramping within the belly, a feeling of bloating and extreme gas, and either diarrhea or constipation. Patients we are successful with have a high stress factor involved in setting off these episodes. Teaching them relaxation techniques involving biofeedback and occasionally specific medications is helpful to our IBS patients.
