Schizophrenia Treatment by New York Psychiatrist

(ICD-9 # 295.00 and DSM-IV # 295.90)

Schizophrenia (ICD-9 # 295.00 and DSM-IV # 295.90) Often a chronic and at times debilitating major mental illness. It is in the category of psychosis. However there are minor variations of schizophrenia such as schizoaffective state that allow even the untreated patient to maintain some sort of normal life. With modern medication even severe schizophrenics suffering from hallucinations, ideas of persecution, even total withdrawal and inability to talk, have shown remarkable improvement. Patients in our office are immediately put on the appropriate medication sometimes by mouth if there is cooperation or otherwise in long-term injections that work even with noncompliant patients. Additional support of therapy and repeated presentation of the rational world around them in addition to medication we have found to be most effective.
